Short Term Monastic Retreat

Starting from 23/12/2009 to 01/01/2010 a ten days short term monastic retreat has begun and finished. It was a nice experience to become a monk. Basically it was just almost the same as the army life, u got a schedule to follows, morning wake up, brush and wash, attended morning chanting in the main hall, eat breakfast (dawn breaks then u are allowed to eat according to the vinaya), and some self practise of dharma. On the Third day of the retreat life, we were on scheduled to go a field trip to one of the biggest temple in Singapore; Kong Meng Shan Phor Kark See Monastery, the visit was coincidence with the biggest puja of he mahayana tradition; the Shui Lu Fa Hui. We had lunch over there, took a group photo with the abbot there and we embarks on another journey to the bt timah hill for a so called "meditation walk". Next day on the 26/12/2009 we starts our vy own fa hui which we called fo qi, for 7 days, reciting and chants the amitabha name repeatedly. I did astounded lots of ppl on facebook after they saw my pics bald in monks uniform. They were all so SURPRISED and even ask why monks can go on in facebook. But the facts is now temples in singapore do have their own websites easy for the urbanised people to access into the updated activities of the temples, saving the troubles to go there. And there are lots of monks and nuns do use the advance technology of internet to propagates the dharma. It is so convenience to actually for the ppl to get in touch with the dharma. What is bad abt it. ? and ppl do still get a very different and wrong idea of the buddhism from what the impression they got fr the movies, tv episodes, and other sources. But the facts is, once one get into its religion and understands it, one will eventually will knows that what one knows before he interacts with buddhism are all solely wrong. Hope ppl do make a research b4 they actually based on wrong ideas of the religionto comments.

ORD

It's been 2 years tt this is the thing tt we have been waiting for yearning for and finally it is in front of us. Finally able to breathe the air of freedom from the confined 2 yrs of NS. Hardships, days and moments back then are now common memories that we will shared together thru another ten yrs of NSman life, even if we are apart and works different places but we will still be meeting and gather at the same place once a year for training and to recollects the days tt we went thru when in2 yrs NS. One thing that is confirm sure about was tt without our legendary PCs, PSs, SGTs, and the"MAN" in the cubicle we will not have the bonding tt was created during the suffering together, the memorable memories now we remembered, the photos given to us as a mememto of our NS life, all this we will thanks the legendary comds of the past and our csm tt all this was thought and plan ahead when still trainees in order to have a surprised mememto for each of us when ORD. A INDEED CLEVER PLAN. We have cherished the days tt when we were together and training together leaving us now not regret but memories tt once we enjoyed or hardships went thru together. Hope tt everyone of us will cherishes things tt we had, cherish every present moments, cherish ppl, friends, family tt cares for us and surrounds us so tt the present moments was live to the fullest not leaving regrets behind when in future recollects but beautiful memories once enjoyed. Times will always moves forward but it will not stop and returns.

166. The Lord said: "Words that have four qualities are well-spoken, not ill-spoken, faultless, not blamed by the wise. What four? Concerning this, one speaks words that are beautiful, not ugly; one speaks words that are right, not wrong; one speaks words that are kind, not cruel; one speaks words that are truthful, not false." The virtuous call beautiful speech the foremost, Secondly comes right speech, not wrong, Thirdly come kind words, not cruel, And fourthly comes truthful, not false speech. Then Venerable Vangisa moved from his seat, put his robe on one shoulder, joined his hands and said: "Something occurs to me, Lord." Then Venerable Vangisa spoke these words in praise of the Lord: One should utter only words Which do no harm for oneself Or cause harm to others, That is truly beautiful speech. Speak kind words, Words rejoiced at and welcomed, Words that bear ill-will to none; Always speak kindly to others. Truthful speech is of the immortal. This is an eternal law. The virtuous stand firm on words That are truthful, useful and right. The Buddha speaks words that lead To the winning of security, The ending of sorrow, and the attaining of Nirvana. Truly, this is the speech supreme.Sn.450-454

i always read buddha words but seldom did i put it to pratice.
