Short Term Monastic Retreat

Starting from 23/12/2009 to 01/01/2010 a ten days short term monastic retreat has begun and finished. It was a nice experience to become a monk. Basically it was just almost the same as the army life, u got a schedule to follows, morning wake up, brush and wash, attended morning chanting in the main hall, eat breakfast (dawn breaks then u are allowed to eat according to the vinaya), and some self practise of dharma. On the Third day of the retreat life, we were on scheduled to go a field trip to one of the biggest temple in Singapore; Kong Meng Shan Phor Kark See Monastery, the visit was coincidence with the biggest puja of he mahayana tradition; the Shui Lu Fa Hui. We had lunch over there, took a group photo with the abbot there and we embarks on another journey to the bt timah hill for a so called "meditation walk". Next day on the 26/12/2009 we starts our vy own fa hui which we called fo qi, for 7 days, reciting and chants the amitabha name repeatedly. I did astounded lots of ppl on facebook after they saw my pics bald in monks uniform. They were all so SURPRISED and even ask why monks can go on in facebook. But the facts is now temples in singapore do have their own websites easy for the urbanised people to access into the updated activities of the temples, saving the troubles to go there. And there are lots of monks and nuns do use the advance technology of internet to propagates the dharma. It is so convenience to actually for the ppl to get in touch with the dharma. What is bad abt it. ? and ppl do still get a very different and wrong idea of the buddhism from what the impression they got fr the movies, tv episodes, and other sources. But the facts is, once one get into its religion and understands it, one will eventually will knows that what one knows before he interacts with buddhism are all solely wrong. Hope ppl do make a research b4 they actually based on wrong ideas of the religionto comments.
